Uniting Philadelphia Lacrosse Players, Fans, Enthusiasts, and Beginners.

The Philadelphia Lacrosse Foundation is actively recruiting players for its two traveling Box Lacrosse Teams. They will be called the Philadelphia Shooting Stars! The Stars are seeking players ages 16 through 20 for our Junior Team and players 21 and up for our Senior Team. We are in the process of scheduling workouts for early January and expect to have the teams picked and ready to play by early May. The Teams will be competing in a few tournaments and will also be competing against some Canadian competition home and away. We realize that some players may be away at college. We are asking all interested players to contact us with their information so we can keep them in our data base. We are looking for experienced Lacrosse players that are interested in learning the Box game, will commit to being part of team, be ambassadors of the sport, and will actively participate. In return you will increase your stick skills, be better conditioned, meet new people and share in different cultures, and have fun in the process!
The Shooting Stars have been invited to compete in the First Annual American Box Lacrosse Association Tournament to be held in August 2010 at The Onondaga Nation Arena. A Team from Syracuse, NY and Burlington, VT have been invited too. Several more teams are planning to attend from various US cities. We are also in negotiations with several Teams in the OLA (Ontario Lacrosse Association) to play home and home series in the Spring and Summer. We will also work with the USILA (United States Indoor Lacrosse Assoc) and may play with and against their developmental programs.
Many of the professional players in the area and also from Canada are anxiously awaiting the formation of our teams. We will be inviting several top professional players to attend our practices and workouts. They will also conduct clinics for our players throughout the year. Our early workouts will be light and focus on stick skills and conditioning, this will allow all new players a better opportunity to transition into the sport and will not interfere with there current Lacrosse teams practices or workouts.
Box Lacrosse is the “fastest game on Two feet” and is Canada’s National Summer Sport. A large majority of the NLL (National Lacrosse League) have come out of Canadian Teams. They play Box Lacrosse exclusively until their college years. Players like John Tavares, John Grant, Jr. , Cody Jameison, Gary and Paul Gait, Geoff Snider, Athan Iaonucci, Broodie Merrill, Colin doyle, Zack Greer, Shawn Williams, to name but a few. Also The Iroquois Nation has adopted Box Lacrosse has their preferred form of play (closes form of the creator’s game). Box Lacrosse is fun, has more action, is faster, and will increase your overall skills. The Philadelphia Lacrosse Foundation believes that Box Lacrosse is the perfect compliment to field lacrosse and is not looking to compete with it but instead is looking for players that want to enhance their skills, compete, learn, and have fun. Once more people become involved with Box Lacrosse they will see the beauty, skill, action and fun in playing this sport.
INTERSTED PLAYERS SHOULD GO TO THE “CONTACT US” SECTION OF THIS SITE AND FILL OUT A FORM OR EMAIL THRIR CONTACT INFORMATION TO: info@PhiladelphiaLax.org
Eight of our Boys from the Kendrick Recreation Center in Roxborough got a treat of a lifetime for young Lacrosse players. They were invited to be on the floor of the Wachovia Center before the Wings played the Colorado Mammoth. Three members of the Wings gave them a clinic. Wings player’s Jordan Coffey, Jordan Levine, and the pride of Penn Charter George Castle worked with our kids for an hour on various fundamentals such as: catching and throwing, passing, shooting, faceoffs, pick and rolls, and much more. The wing’s players immediately struck up a rapport with our players. the kids were in awe of being on the turf floor with the professional players! The clinic was fun and informative. Bill Malizia president of The Philadelphia Lacrosse Foundation said “the players were great, they went above and beyond the call of duty” Malizia also thanked the Wings administration for all their support for our new organizatioin. Our kids had fun and learned some new lacrosse techniques. Our kids did a great job of selling tickets to the game, as each were required to sell six tickets. The players who attended the clinic were: Tyler Herbetko, David Bartholomew, Ryan Flynn, Mark Buckley, Nick Kuruc, Justin and Nick Sisofo, and Tom Lojeski. We are looking forward to having more events with Wings in the near future. CHECK OUT THE VIDEO BELOW:
